What we collect
KitGrade is a public directory operated by Compound Labs. It is free to read, has no accounts, no login and no checkout, and it does not sell anything. This policy describes the whole of what happens to your data here, which is not very much.
Nothing you type. There is no form, no search box that posts anywhere, no newsletter signup and no comment field on this site. We have no way to collect your name, your email address or your payment details, because nothing here asks for any of them.
Aggregate page analytics. Page views and referrers are counted for the site. No cookie is set, no cross-site profile is built, and individual visitors are not identified.
Session recordings. Analytics here includes session replay: a reconstruction of how a page was used, clicks, scrolls, pointer movement, and which pages were opened in what order. Everything typed into a field is masked in the browser before it is sent, so text you enter is never captured. It exists so that a flow which breaks for someone can be watched back and fixed rather than guessed at. Recordings are processed by PostHog and deleted after 30 days.
Server logs. Our host records ordinary request logs (IP address, user agent, path, timestamp) as any web server does. They are used for operating and securing the site and are not combined with anything else.
Email, only if you write to us. If you email us about a correction, a listing or a review copy, we keep that correspondence so we can act on it and remember what was agreed.
Processors
- Vercel, hosting, content delivery and aggregate analytics for this site.
- PostHog, aggregate product analytics, proxied through this site’s own domain. No cookie, no cross-site profile.
- Supabase, the database holding the directory itself: the kits, their measurements and their scores. It holds no personal data about visitors.
- Resend, outbound email, used when we write to a kit vendor to request a review copy or reply to a correction.
Information about the kits we list
Everything the directory publishes about a starter kit was read from a page that vendor or maintainer published publicly: a repository, a pricing page, documentation. Where we hold a vendor’s contact address it is one they published themselves, and it is used only to contact them about their own listing. Any vendor can ask us to correct a figure, or to stop writing to them, and we will.
Retention
Measurement history for each kit is kept indefinitely, because being able to show when a figure was measured is the point of the directory. Correspondence is kept while it is useful and then deleted. Analytics are retained on their providers’ own schedules.
Your rights
Since we hold no accounts, in almost every case we hold nothing about you at all. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, ask and we will delete it.
